In April 1906, a devastating earthquake and firestorm all but destroyed San Francisco. These artifacts were retrieved from the remains of the Masonic Grand Lodge. Legend has it that the Hands of Fidelity are the only combustible object from the building to have survived the fire. The hands joined in friendship have since become a symbol for the survival of friendship in the face or adversity.
